Prahran Library Space Plan

We have a budget and discussion are underway

399px-livinglibrary_prahran07_7153.jpgUnfortunately our budget isn’t for actual renovations but a budget for a plan. So now it is time to get those thinking caps on.

Just some of our considerations. I know most of you have been through this process before. Hopefully this will be a much more fruitful process.

According to Evans and Layzell Ward (2004) our new or revamped facility should be:

  • flexible
  • adaptable
  • expandable
  • accessible
  • compact
  • stable
  • secure!
  • attractive
  • economical
  • comfortable
  • varied

    Hi Kim,

Thanks for giving me the spaceplan link.
I have placed the link also in My.Swinburne for easy
    access as well.
Looking forward to discussions using this interface.

What is happening with the old media services area? A saga that seems to be longer than Blue Hills.
I feel that as a temporary measure we could make better use of the old photocopy room. It does not seem to be used for much now. Either expand into 106, or incorporate in into the open area towards the eastern end. I guess that would involve removing a lot of cabling though.

At the moment it has been taken over for storage. It would be nice to knock down a few walls. Once we have a better idea of how long we will need to wait for actual work to begin, we can decide whether to implement any short term plans.

There is a bit of empty space at the back of the equipment room, perhaps it should be used to store some more equipments such as CD players, slide projectors, etc. Then re-use those shelves to put all the reserve materials and DVDs. The shelves behind the service desk can then be removed and the trolleys can be put alongside the wall.

    Christa.
